Student Exchange Program between FMIPA Yogyakarta State University and Yala Rajabhat University Thailand

Hello! S1 Biology Study Program students, Jalu Bahtiar Baharudin, Aulia Nyndita Wardani, and Akhmad Taufiq, are students of the S1 Biology Study Program class of 2021 who have just completed a 3-month trip from November 23 - January 24 studying in Thailand. During the time the undergraduate Biology study program students were there, students were not only allowed to explore knowledge on campus but also to experience the cultural diversity and different daily life of the country.

The journey of Biology undergraduate students began when they were selected to take part in the student exchange program between FMIPA Yogyakarta State University and Yala Rajabhat University. The enthusiasm of undergraduate Biology students to explore new things and gain valuable experience has led students to complete this challenge to completion.

At Yala Rajabhat University, Biology undergraduate students take three core courses: medical microbiology, biology business & entrepreneurship, and science innovation & creativity, as well as one additional course on Thai Culture. Students of the S1 Biology study program feel the difference in the learning approach there compared to the system in Indonesia. There, students generally only take two courses because of the long duration of each course, which is four hours. The time that undergraduate Biology students spend in class provides an opportunity for students to absorb the subject matter delivered in depth by the lecturers. In addition, the combination of theory and practicum into one provides valuable experience for students of the S1 Biology study program. With a limited number of students in each class, students can run experiments individually with full support from lecturers.

However, the experience of S1 Biology study program students is not only limited to the classroom. The interaction of Biology undergraduate students with the local community has given color to the student experience. The students of the S1 Biology study program are very grateful for the hospitality and support received from the residents of Yala Rajabhat University, not only helping to provide halal food but also making students of the S1 Biology study program feel at home.

Finally, the students of the S1 Biology study program would like to express their deepest gratitude to all parties who have been involved in this trip. Thank you to FMIPA Yogyakarta State University, Yala Rajabhat University, and especially the UNY Biology Study Program for the opportunity given. Thank you also to the lecturers who have patiently guided the students, and to the local community who have been friendly and supportive of Biology undergraduate students while in Thailand. This experience will always be a valuable part of the journey of education and life of undergraduate Biology study program students. Thank you.
