Cooperation of S1 Biology Study Program FMIPA UNY dengan Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) seeks to ensure that higher education institutions are highly adaptable to changing times, have a more direct impact on society, and can achieve international university standards. To realize the ideals of higher education, changes must be made in the performance assessment of PTN which will be assessed based on the Main Performance Indicators (KPIs). The Biology Study Program of the Department of Biology Education, FMIPA UNY has currently achieved Superior accreditation until 2026 and is accredited by ASIIN until 2025. This accreditation needs to be maintained so that it is necessary to organize various activities of the tri dharma of international universities to support the achievement of IKU 8, an internationally accredited study program. Therefore, efforts are needed, one of which is benchmarking. Benchmarking is a forum that can be used so that Study Programs can see educational, research, and community service activities at other foreign higher education institutions.

One of the reputable foreign universities is Chulalongkorn University. Chulalongkorn University has been the number 1 university in Thailand for 15 consecutive years and ranked 50th Best University in the World for work according to the QS World University Rankings in 2009-2024. It ranked the No. 1 university in Thailand and 96th of the Top 100 Universities in the World for academic reputation for 2 consecutive years, in the QS World University Rankings (2021-2022). Chulalongkorn University's success in the Times Higher Education/THE Impact Rankings 2023 by occupying the 17th position in the world and 1st in Thailand reflects its strong commitment to becoming a world-class university that prioritizes the impact of the SDGs and contributes to community innovation and sustainable development. One of the faculties at this university is the Faculty of Science. The Faculty of Science consists of 14 departments divided into 4 department clusters. Department in Biological Sciences (Biology, Botany, Biochemistry, Microbiology); Department in Natural Science (Marine Science, Geology, environmental science); Department in Physical Science (Mathematics and computer science, Chemistry, Physic); Department in Technological Science (Chemical technology, Materials science, Imaging and printing technology, Food Science and Technology).

A pilot research collaboration has also been initiated in 2024 by conducting research in foreign cooperation with lecturers from the Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University. The continuity of this achievement needs to be followed up with benchmarking to open up wider opportunities for the implementation of the tridharma. This activity supports IKU 3 with lecturers doing activities outside the campus so that lecturers' activities are not only on the campus itself. This activity will expand international networks and collaborations to support IKU 6, namely the running of study programs in collaboration with partners. So that the PTN will collaborate with partners to improve the study program.

Benchmarking activities will be carried out from July 1-5, 2024 including meetings with department lecturers; discussions on cooperation in the fields of education, research, and community service; visits to campus facilities and infrastructure;  and sit in the implementation of research in the laboratory.  The activity ended with the signing of  the Implementing Arrangement (IA) Joint Research between Dr. Anna Rakhmawati from the S1 Biology Study Program FMIPA UNY and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sehanat Prasongsuk from the Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University. With the implementation of this activity, it is hoped that it will expand networking that can open research collaboration, student exchanges or partnerships in the future between the S1 Biology Study Program of FMIPA UNY and the Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University.
