BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE FOR THE NATION: ACTIVE CONTRIBUTION OF BIOLOGY EDUCATION DEPARTMENT LECTURERS IN THE KOSABANGSA PROGRAM

The KOSABANGSA Program (Kolaborasi Sosial Membangun Masyarakat) is an initiative by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudsaintek). This program represents a synergy between higher education institutions and communities in addressing real-world problems through scientific, collaborative, and sustainable approaches. In 2025, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), as the mentoring institution, collaborated with Universitas Gunung Kidul (UGK) to implement the KOSABANGSA program. The activity carried the theme “Integrated Circular Agricultural Technology to Support Food Security and Sustainable MSME Economy in Wotawati Hamlet, Pucung Village, Girisubo, Gunungkidul Regency.” Lecturers from the Biology Education Department, FMIPA UNY, Dr. Anna Rakhmawati and Dr. Anggi Tias Pratama, played an active role in this program. They provided training and mentoring in compost production and the making of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) soap in Wotawati Hamlet. The activities were conducted in September and October 2025. Through the KOSABANGSA program, the initiative aims to integrate biological science with community needs in order to create practical and sustainable solutions.
