Collaboration between the Department of Biology Education and Kupunesia Brings Real-Life, Experience-Based Learning

The Teaching Practitioner Program was implemented in the Entomology A class of the 2024 cohort, involving 18 students. The activity was fully supported by the course instructor, Dr. Yunita Fera Rahmawati, S.Pd., M.Sc., as part of her commitment to providing meaningful, real-life learning experiences in entomology. In this program, the class collaborated with Kupunesia, a butterfly education and conservation platform.  The session featured two expert speakers, Yohanes Agus Soenarko and Abdul Mutholib Shahroni, who delivered engaging and practical material grounded in current scientific developments. Through this collaboration, students gained deeper insight into insect diversity, with a particular focus on butterflies and their ecological roles.

The learning materials highlighted the importance of butterflies as pollinators and indicators of environmental quality, as well as their contribution to ecosystem sustainability and food chain balance. Students were also introduced to modern methods of butterfly identification and data collection using the citizen science–based Kupunesia application. This hands-on approach allowed students to experience how field observations can be transformed into valuable data to support conservation efforts. In addition, students explored educational content on butterfly morphology, ecology, phenology, and conservation roles, based on official learning resources from Nektar Indonesia and Kupunesia. Through these activities, students are expected to strengthen their analytical skills, build ecological awareness, and contribute meaningfully to butterfly and insect conservation efforts in Indonesia.
