Partnering with Practitioners, the Department of Biology Education Encourages Student Entrepreneurship

The Department of Biology Education, through the Biology Education Student Association (Himabio) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UNY, continues to strengthen a biology-based entrepreneurial ecosystem on campus. One of the key initiatives is building partnerships with industry practitioners and business owners as strategic collaborators. This approach aims to provide students with practical experience in developing and managing startups while still pursuing their studies.

As part of this effort, an Entrepreneurship Workshop themed “Natural Creations with Aesthetic Value” was held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the FMIPA UNY Meeting Room. The event was attended by the Head of the Department of Biology Education, along with students from the Biology and Biology Education Study Programs. The workshop featured Endra Ade Winata from Taman kecil as the invited practitioner and resource person.

The activity began with a presentation on creative business ideas based on natural materials, followed by a hands-on terrarium-making session. Through direct interaction with practitioners, students gained real-world insights and practical skills that go beyond classroom theory. This experiential learning approach helps students better understand the challenges and opportunities in biological entrepreneurship.

Overall, the workshop supports the graduate profile of the Department of Biology Education, particularly in preparing students to become practitioners and entrepreneurs in the field of biology. Activities like this are expected to inspire students to develop innovative, sustainable, and market-oriented biological products in the future.
