Biology Study Program Organizes Workshop on Academic Progress Acceleration, Featuring the 2025 Curriculum and Internship Procedures

YOGYAKARTA – The Biology Study Program organized a workshop entitled "Strategies for Accelerating Academic Progress: A Dialogue with the Head of the Study Program and the Off-Campus Learning (PLK) Coordinator" on Thursday, 2 July 2026. The event was attended by 79 undergraduate Biology students and commenced at 09:00 a.m. (Western Indonesia Time, WIB). The workshop featured three distinguished speakers: Dr. Anna Rakhmawati, S.Si., M.Si., Head of the Undergraduate Biology Study Program; Dr. Ixora Sartika Mercuriani, M.Si., Person in Charge (PIC) for Off-Campus Learning (PLK) and Coordinator of Field Practice (PKL); and Annisa Latifa, M.Sc., representative of the Biology Study Program Quality Assurance Unit.

The event commenced with a presentation on academic updates delivered by Dr. Anna Rakhmawati. She introduced the 2025 Curriculum, outlining its key components, including the graduate profile, the program's vision and mission, and the alignment of the Study Program's vision with those of the Faculty and the University. These elements are articulated through nine Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs). Dr. Anna also introduced the Student Extracurricular Achievement Recognition (Penghargaan Ekstrakurikuler Mahasiswa/PEM) program and the UNY Fast Track Program. In addition, she emphasized the regulations and strategies for the timely completion of undergraduate theses.

"Students must ensure that their thesis topic aligns with their field of study and that the selected thesis supervisor has expertise relevant to the proposed research area," she emphasized.

She further explained that students undertaking their undergraduate thesis are required to consult with their Academic Advisor, Thesis Supervisor, and the Head of the Study Program during the thesis planning process. Students must also register their thesis through the Final Project Supervision Information System (SIBIMTA) and complete a minimum of three months of supervision before being eligible for the thesis examination. In addition, students are expected to fulfill all administrative requirements, including completing at least 12 supervision records in the supervision logbook and meeting the publication requirement.

The second session was delivered by Dr. Ixora Sartika Mercuriani, who presented guidelines on Field Practice (PKL), Independent Projects (PI), and Internships. She explained that each of these activities carries 6 credit units (equivalent to 272 hours) and is typically completed over a period of two to three months. Dr. Ixora also described the internship registration process, which is now centralized through the magang.uny.ac.id portal. The procedure includes submitting a proposed internship topic, obtaining approval of the proposal, and requesting an official placement letter addressed to an industry or institutional partner (Dunia Usaha dan Dunia Industri/DUDI).

"Once the partner institution responds positively and approves the application, the assignment letter will be issued and the internship may commence. However, if the application is declined, students must cancel their previous registration and submit a new application to another partner institution," Dr. Ixora explained.

The workshop concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students actively raised questions, primarily concerning thesis preparation and internship implementation. Through this workshop, the Undergraduate Biology Study Program expects students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum, undergraduate thesis requirements, and internship procedures, enabling them to successfully complete their studies and graduate on time in accordance with the University's academic regulations.
